Betsy Devos'confirmation to be President Trumps Secretary of Education may hit a snag after two Republican Senators said they would be voting against her confirmation.

Sen. Susan Collins of Maine and Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska has stated categorically that they will not be voting for her as she is an ardent supporter of charter schools, voucher programs and a huge financier of Republican causes.

"I will not, can not vote to confirm her," Collins said.

On the other hand, Sen. Murkowski stated that she had serious concerns about the nominee and had received thousands of calls from concerned constituents who asked her to vote against the nomination.
To be confirmed, Devos requires a simple majority for her nomination to sail through.

The Republicans have a slight 52 seat majority compared to the Democrats who have 50 seats. Without the two votes of Sen. Collins and Sen. Murkowski, the vote will be a tie 0f 50-50. In this scenario, Vice President Mike Spence will have to vote so that Devos can be confirmed.

This is if Devos does not lose any more votes from the Republican side. A Vice President has never had to cast a vote, and it will be a first.

Many Democrats were already opposed to her nomination, but her confirmation hearing turned out to be a disaster as it became evident that she was clueless on federal special education laws.

When asked about guns in schools, she said that there was a possibility of a grizzly appearing in a school which caused an uproar.
"I would imagine there is probably a gun in a school to protect from potential grizzlies," she said.
