Cher will not be starring in a new movie about the Flint water crisis, after she was forced to drop out, citing a 'serious family issue' as the reason.

According to Hollywood media, the superstar is gravely concerned about her 90-year-old mother, Georgia Holt's delicate state.
"Cher is worried about her mother's health. She's in her 90s now and does not want to be far from her. Her mother is not deathly ill, but is somewhat fragile," an insider revealed.

According to the insider, Cher does not have any health issues. There had been rumors that the 70-year-old Hollywood icon had suddenly taken ill.

With less than a month until filming starts, the Oscar-winning singer announced on Friday that she would no longer be able to participate in the project.

"This has been a project so near and so dear to my heart, and I was truly looking forward to helping tell this story," Cher said in a statement.

The star added that unfortunately, she would not be able to leave Los Angeles during the filming, as she is dealing with a serious family issue.

The singer added that she was glad that the film's producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, plan to move ahead without her involvement in the project.

Cher also voiced a belief that the Lifetime flick will be done beautifully.

The icon's departure was sudden; film executives discussed her involvement in the project earlier this week.

Cher first signed onto the project in January. She was also set to executive produce the movie. It is not yet clear whether she will continue in this role.
