On Tuesday the Governor of Louisiana was forced to declare a state of emergency and dispatch the National Guard to provide humanitarian services to survivors and those affected.

No fatalities were reported, but around 25 people were treated and discharged for mainly minor injuries in nearby hospitals. A woman who was eight months pregnant was admitted with her two children when their home caved in. She was listed as stable, and her kids were unharmed.

Gov. John Bel Edwards sent out the National Guard to assist state and local police in some of the hardest-hit areas, as well as prevent looting of property. Officials said the most affected area was Eastern New Orleans, which also suffered the most severe damage. Some entrances to Interstate 10 remained closed owing to the storm.

"I am heartbroken to see once again Louisiana families suffering in the wake of devastating tornadoes today," Edwards said in a statement. "We are working tirelessly to ensure that every citizen affected by this storm receives the resources they need as quickly as possible."

Two of the twisters struck in Orleans Parish, two more hit Livingston Parish, and one apiece touched down in Tangipahoa, Ascension, and St. James parishes, according to officials and police on the ground.

Early on Wednesday, President Trump tweeted that his thoughts and prayers were with the people of Louisiana.
